Yes it has the dreaded 6.0. Yes it was a commercial vehicle. Yes you would look bizarre driving it. But holy crap it's cheap. 2 hours left on the auction and it's currently going for $2050. And it's got less than 100,000 miles and has probably been properly maintained it's entire lifetime. This thing could be the ultimate racecar tow vehicle. Rip out a bunch of the rear seats and viola! Huge cargo area, with a wheelchair lift that can be used to move engines, tires etc. It's sorta like a mini-RV except way way cheaper. I have an irrational want for this, it's a good thing it's in California and I'm in Texas.
EDIT: Whoops forgot to include the link. Here it is: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
UPDATE: It sold for $3950, that's still a steal for the amount of practical vehicle you're getting for such a small amount of money. If it were closer and I had more space I probably would have been bidding.

6.0 in a E series van chassis that is going to be hard to service. But its a great idea for a racecar support rig.

Better yet, sell all the stuff out of it you can to trim it down to $500 and LeMons it! The theme is already there!

Too heavy for to meet lemons regulations. But ultimate lemons tow vehicle was what I was thinking.

It's not like working on a 6.0 in an F-Series is that much easier. It soooo cheap especially for the mileage.

A friend of mine has a very similar bus, also an ex-commercial vehicle he got cheap. Not sure what engine it has in it, but he stripped the interior and made a sort of tour bus for traveling to bluegrass festivals. I see him all around the northeast with it, for the money it's pretty tempting - plus as you say it could make a cool race car hauler!

This would make a great band tour vehicle

EGR delete. Supposedly the EGR cooler was the biggest issue with the 6.0.

I'm constantly tempted to grab one of these as a race rig

It would be perfect as a race rig. The 6.0 is not the most reliable engine and working on it is a pain in the ass, so you wouldn't want to put a ton of mile on one, so for an occasional tow vehicle like a race rig this makes a ton of sense. They're cheap enough to justify buying it for a sole-purpose and you can fit your entire team and all your spares in the back. Hell you can camp in it at the racetrack! This is the perfect Lemons/Chumpcar tow vehicle.

I wouldn't be apt to towing 10K trailer + car behind this, unfortunately.
Well, if it was the F Series chassis, then maybe....

I wouldn't ever be towing that much, it would just be a race hauler for me. The car weights 2300lbs + trailer. It's a dualy rear axle, so it should be able to handle some towing.

You hit the number on the money. It's rated to tow 10,000 lbs

But you have to consider the body that's been built on the back, as well as the axle weight rating.
It's not as crucial on a pickup (Because the bodies are so similar, other factors affect the tow rating more), but on a stripped chassis/cutaway it is crucial, as the box on the back can weigh enough as to cause the axle to be overloaded at 10% tongue weight on 10K pounds.
A better method is to always check the axle weight on a scale, not to exceed the GAWR rear, and make sure that the GCWR is not exceeded for the truck and trailer combination.
Which is why I'm not likely to get a Mini-Winnie to tow the car to the racetrack, along with semi-nice accomodations.

The 6.0 wasn't as bad in commercial vehicles from what I've heard, since they were down tuned.

I don't think they were down tuned, they just didn't have custom tunes added to them. That's where I think most of the 6.0 problems came from, everyone got their new diesel and immediately added a custom tuner to them to get more power like they assumed they could with all diesels. Nope. A 6.0 properly maintained and kept in stock form can be a very reliable motor.

03-04 are usually where the problems are. 06-07 had less recalls than any year of the 7.3. But, yeah they were detuned due to airflow restrictions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_E-Se…
